Roger established Episode Consultants in 2013 in Abu Dhabi, and continued in the UK from 2016. It is a long way from being a graduate trainee with Spillers Foods in, well, let’s not say just how long ago that was, then the office furniture sector, culminating in working for telecommunications carriers. His time in sales, sales management and sales operations management in the telecommunications sector made him realise there must be simpler ways of doing things than the consultants working with him on business management systems seemed to suggest. Hence Episode was created. Finding like-minded colleagues to help deliver simple and effective management systems, making ISO work for our clients, not the other way around, has taken some time. Now there is a strong, experienced team of operational leaders passing on their experience to our clients.

Mark has a vast depth and breadth of accountancy & commercial finance management. He qualified with PWC, and came to find he preferred to be actively involved in businesses’ finances, rather than auditing them. He has been part of the senior management team in sectors as diverse as the automotive sector and electrical components distribution. As well as being our FD, Mark is constantly challenging how we do things to constantly improve them, just as ISO standards require you to do.

Mel is a highly experienced Management Systems Consultant and Lead Assessor with over 30 years’ expertise in quality, environmental, health and safety and technical compliance systems. With a proven record of developing, implementing and improving integrated management systems across complex, multi-site engineering, manufacturing and steel-sector environments, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 27001, ISO 50001, AS9100/AS9120, EN 1090-1 and ISO 3834, Mel is a key member of our team. Prior to her work as a Management System Consultant, Mel spent 27 years in the steel industry, has a degree in Metallurgical Engineering, and a post-graduate diploma in environmental management. Mel is our go-to for environmental matters, and leads on our carbon management planning service. Client feedback is consistent in her knack of combining strong strategic systems thinking with practical, commercially focused solutions that improve compliance, reduce risk, support business growth and embed continual improvement.

Alison has spent more than 20 years in food and beverage manufacturing and now works with organisations across manufacturing, industry, food and feed — and, her own words, occasionally somewhere completely different. Her technical toolkit includes ISO 9001, quality management, 14001 environmental management, 45001, health & Safety management, and specialist food and feed assurance standards. She is also a Certified Lead Auditor. Alison firmly feels knowing the standards is only part of the job. She is much more interested in making them work in the real world. In her own words “I particularly like internal audit. It’s where we get to hang out the dirty washing. An internal audit with no findings isn’t necessarily evidence of a brilliant system. Sometimes it means nobody looked very hard. I’m also a firm believer in getting out of the meeting room and seeing what’s actually happening. Senior managers included. It’s your business and it needs to remain your management system. I’m not there to create something that only works when the consultant turns up. I’m there to bring another pair of eyes, ask questions, challenge when it’s useful, spot connections and help your people work out what will make things better.”

David has spent 25 years in large scale manufacturing in the food and animal feed industry in senior technical and quality assurance roles. In 2022 he moved into his current role which is providing businesses with support in achieving and maintaining the various ISO and BRCGS standards. As a qualified Lead Assessor he knows what it takes to achieve and maintain these standards with his key strengths including team building and development through education, motivation and encouragement. He works actively with stakeholders to ensure the Company is compliant with all relevant standards and that we meet or exceed their expectations. David has a proven record of implementing cost effective logical systems which have been shown in consistent year on year improvements in audit performance and compliance. The breadth & depth of David’s industrial experience demonstrates he is very adaptable to changing environments through the wide range of product categories and processes that I have worked within.

Qualified Management Systems Experts

At Episode all our consultants are highly experienced real-world business and operations managers, rather than compliance mangers. We know what is needed operationally, and how to implement ISO along the way.

We have all done the same courses and sat the same (International Register of Certificated Auditors [IRCA] Lead Auditor) exams as the Certification Bodies auditors (the people who certify your systems). You can be confident that you will always have successful audits because we all know what your certification body auditor is looking for.

We also have years of real-world experience in establishing, auditing and managing systems. Many of our clients choose not to have an HSE or Quality Manager; they find it far more cost-effective to outsource that to Episode Consultants. We are able to give you help and advice about system and process improvements, having seen how other people do things and sharing that best practice is invaluable to our clients.
