Great teamwork (including the weekend)
Nurlan Kimalov, Regional Business Development Manager, along with the rest of the team based in Atyrau and Kuryk, is a progressive, dedicated group that mobilized a huge asset integrity project from scratch in August last year.
So it is no mean feat to become certified to ISO 9001:2015 for quality, ISO 14001:2015 for environment, and OHSAS 18001:2007 for occupational health and safety.
Building on Group experience
Part of the Onstream Group meant that there was a wealth of experience the team could draw from. Nevertheless going liver so quickly, several thousand miles from the headquarters in the Netherlands took some doing.
Rightly, their client, the giant Ersai Group, (Joint Venture between SAIPEM & JSC Lancaster Group Kazakhstan) sets exceedingly high standards, masking the achievement even more remarkable.
The project is located in a 2,200,000 sq.m. fabrication yard in Kuryk, 75km from Aktau. It includes Fabrication, Storage, Assembly, Blasting & Painting shelters, with Approx. 7000 people are employed there in support of the Kazakhstan Oil & Gas Offshore.
Three standards, three languages…

There are now 53 people working on site at Kuryk, with English, Russian and Kazakh spoken.
That made producing an effective management system that everybody can use interesting, to say the least. The OKAZ team as they refer to themselves internally, get positive feedback from their client, and given the hazardous work, in challenging conditions, makes the zero injuries track record praiseworthy.
Bureau Veritas adds value, not problems
All too often clients complain their ISO certification auditors are hard to deal with and seem to find fault, rather than success. Maksat Rustemov is a credit to BV. He was thorough and demanding, as it should be. What made him exceptional is that he made many insightful comments, or “opportunities for improvement” that are just that – great ideas that can help us do things better. Thanks Maksat.
Brits are terrible at foreign languages…

It was Ramadan when Episode went out to Atyrau to work with the team, and Nurlan observes it, so not only did he not eat or drink until late in the evening, he had to put up with Roger having beer with his dinner hours before he could eat.
