Crime and Fire Defence Systems provide government compliant security solutions for critical infrastructure.
In this video they talk about achieving ISO 9001 , ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 27001 and National Security Inspectorate NSI Gold
“We've got a suite of ISO accreditations. The reason we started with ISOs was that we were a small business and we needed to step up to those levels. We reached out to Episode Consultants who enabled us to become a bigger business through the processes and procedures we've [now] got in place. If we don't have these accreditations we can't get even on these frameworks. This proves to be invaluable.”
Pete Rushforth, Managing Director of Crime and Fire Defence Systems.
Summary
Crime & Fire Defence Systems (CFDS) is a turnkey provider of government-compliant security solutions, delivering integrated systems for perimeter protection, CCTV, access control, and critical infrastructure projects. With over 25 years of experience, they design, install, and maintain end-to-end security systems trusted by leading organisations across the UK and Europe.
As the company has grown the need for ISO certification for standards beyond ISO 9001, quality management, which was already in place, became clear.
CFDS approached Episode to implement 3 new standards - environmental (ISO 14001), health & Safety (ISO 45001) and information security (ISO 27001).

What were the issues
CFDS has been certified by the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) to ISO 9001 as part of their NSI Gold certification.
As the size of projects grew, and the client base expanded to include major utility providers such as the electric and gas national grids, so too did the need for robust management of their environmental, H&S and information security performance.
Because of the highly sensitive nature of many of their installations (most of the projects need security-cleared personnel), the installation sites being potentially high risk (electric and gas transmission nodes for example), and not least because CFDS want to work to the highest possible standards, they felt that they needed support in adopting the best-practice provided by the standards.
What we did about it
The company has a strong QHSE team in place, and their operational control of environmental, H&S and information security management was already sound.
However, as Pete highlights in the video, they knew they needed to develop a comprehensive, integrated management system that is used throughout the business, not just as a compliance tool.
We spent a lot of time meeting all the departments, and visiting a number of project sites, to really get to understand how the company works.
Meg, who led on the project, used her experience of building systems in SharePoint to do the same here.
The outcome
The company was successfully certified by a UKAS accredited certification body to all 3 standards, and Meg is with them most months helping maintain & improve their integrated management system.
They have gained significant investment to fund the resources needed to fulfill the very significant contracts won as a result of being ISO certified.
